Volkswagen Group RUS has assembled the 300,000th car at its plant in Kaluga. The jubilee car is a Volkswagen Polo 1,6 (105 hp) with automatic transmission.
With a third shift introduced in late July, the factory is capable to produce 150,000 cars a year. Last year, the Kaluga plant produced more than 95 000 cars. It currently builds the Škoda Fabia and Octavia, as well as the Volkswagen Polo sedan and Tiguan, using CKD assembly method. The Volswagen Touareg and Multivan are also asembled there from SKD kits. The factory has a 6,000 strong workforce.
Due to the steadily growing demand, "Volkswagen Group Rus" will continue to increase production in Kaluga in 2012.
