Czech-based Visteon-Autopal, a subsidiary of U.S. supplier Visteon, will transfer production of air conditioning tubes from its Novi Jicin plant to Székesfehérvár, Hungary, the company’s spokeswoman Veronica Prudilová has announced. The leasing contract of the Czech plant is to expire soon, and the Hungarian subsidiary has enough free capacity to take over production of the above mentioned components. A few dozen workers will lose their jobs at the Czech site.
The Kovo Trade Union is claiming the decision to be "premature, uneconomic and without concept”. According to union leader Antonin Majer, Visteon has violated the agreement between the company and the trade unions. Visteon has rejected all criticism of the plan.
Visteon-Autopal currently operates five lighting systems and HVAC plants and two technical centers in the Czech Republic. Visteon’s sole Hungarian plant produces compressors, fuel delivery modules, fuel pumps and ignition coils.
