TRW to Build New Steering Plant in Poland

US-based TRW Automotive Holdings Corp., one of the world's largest automotive suppliers, intends to build a new factory in Poland for the production of electric power steering systems (EPS), local newswire automotivesuppliers.pl reports. The new plant will be built in Bielsko-Biala, in the Katowice Special Economic Zone, near TRW’s existing power steering factory.

Production at the 9 thousand square meter plant will be launched in the first quarter of 2012. The facility initially will employ 250 workers. TRW will reportedly invest PLN150 million (approx. €37,5 million) in the project’s first phase.

TRW currently operates five plants and an R&D center in Poland, employing more than six thousand workers. The plant in Czechowice/Bielsko-Biala employs over 700 people and manufactures hydraulic and electric-steering systems for OEMs like Fiat, Ford, Renault, Mazda and Volkswagen.
