Skoda Will Maintain Lower Rate of Agency Staff

The company is not intending to get back to the former pre-crisis model, when it had been employing up to 4,000 agency workers, said Bohdan Wojnar, a Skoda Auto board member responsible for Human Resources Management. According to him, new workers needed for the planned production increase will be hired as permanent staff. The carmaker created 1,100 new jobs last year.

Three years ago, there were 4,000 agency workers working for the car manufacturer. Currently, there are 2,400 people from agencies working at the plants in Mlada Boleslav, Kvasiny and Vrchlabi. "The rate between permanent and agency personnel must be well balanced," Wojnar said. The current rate of contract workers is about 10%, with total workforce amounting to 24,722 as of end of June.

Skoda has an agreement with the agencies offering contract workers permanent employment after 9 working months. "I can imagine to shorten this period to 6 months," Wojnar said.
