PARIS, France - French car maker Renault has confirmed that its Slovenian subsidiary, the Novo Mesto-based Revoz, will start assembling the new Smart and Twingo models in 2013.
Renault confirmed its announcement from April 2010 a few days ago, as it disclosed plans to invest €5.7 billion into manufacturing between 2010 and 2013, 40% of which in France.
The original announcement came as Renault, Nissan and Daimler presented a partnership in developing a new city car.
The car makers will cooperate both in terms of funds as well as in development and technology. Revoz will take over the next generation of four-door Smart model and the new Twingo.
Both models will be built on the same chassis, although the exterior of the car will differ by brand.
