PSA Slovakia Halts Output on Low Demand

The Trnava factory will suspend production between October 28th and November 4th, as well as between November 14th and November 18th, because of a decline in orders due to difficult economic conditions in Europe, Ivana Pavelkova, the spokeswoman for the Slovak unit, told Bloomberg.

The plant in western Slovakia, which employs 3,000 staff and exports most of its production to the German, French and Italian markets, normally operates in two shifts. It currently assembles Peugeot 207 and Citroën C3 Picasso vehicles. In 2010 the company produced around 187 thousand new cars, while for this year it plans to churn out 186 thousand units.

Local unit PSA Peugeot Citroën Slovakia a.s. has recently celebrated its 5th anniversary of making vehicles in the country.

French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroën will temporarily cut production in Slovakia for two weeks as it is experiencing a decline in orders for Peugeot and Citroën vehicles produced at the Trnava plant
