Nexteer Automotive, a Michigan-based supplier of steering and driveline systems, has announced an investment of more than €50 million in its European manufacturing operations. Majority owned by China's State-owned AVIC Automobile Industry Holding Co. Ltd., the company operates two plants in Europe, both in Poland.
The Tychy factory is Nexteer’s biggest plant in terms of employment and output (it is also home to one of the firm's five engineering centres). The second factory in situated in Gliwice. In 2010 the two plants produced 50% of the group’s total output of 12 million driveline and steering systems.
The investment will reportedly launch three new programs, including one to produce 1 million electric power steering units.
