According to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, a total of 115,865 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia in September 2026.
According to data obtained from PPC JSC, the market size in September 2026 was 126,542 units, which is 0.01% more than sales in September last year. In the first nine months of 2026, sales of new passenger cars and LCVs in Russia increased by 4.98% compared to the same period in 2025, totaling 967,996 units.
Electric vehicle sales showed particularly strong growth. In January–September 2026, EV sales nearly doubled to 10,570 units, while their market share increased from 0.6% to 1.1%.
Chairman of the Automobile Manufacturers Committee, Alexey Kalitsev comments:
“In the third quarter of 2026, the market demonstrated relatively stable dynamics, reflecting continued demand, although it is still too early to speak of sustainable growth.
In the coming months, market dynamics will be influenced by a combination of factors. In particular, expectations surrounding another indexation of the disposal fee may encourage some customers to bring forward their vehicle purchase decisions. At the same time, the suspension of subsidized car loan and leasing programmes, exchange-rate volatility, and the current level of the key interest rate may constrain demand among certain categories of
buyers.
Against this backdrop, market developments in the fourth quarter will largely depend on the balance between consumers’ desire to purchase vehicles before potential price revisions and the continuing constraints on access to financing. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and assess the impact of these factors.”
