New Car Market in Russia: January Figures Are Released

According to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, a total of 76,042 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia in January 2026.

According to data obtained from PPC JSC, the market size in January 2025 was 75,632 units, which is 16% less than sales in January last year.

Chairman of the Automobile Manufacturers Committee, Alexey Kalitsev comments:
“Following the market rules, sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles have long lost their unpredictability. The market reduction expected in January was obvious to all its players, and the only remaining question was in its size. The 16% decrease is the result of the introduction of previously adopted measures. After the gradual increase in the disposal fee in December and January, the raise of the VAT, as well as the adoption of new import regulations in China, it can be expected that the import of new cars will decline in the near future, and customers will be offered previously imported and locally-produced cars. Unfortunately, their costs in dealerships constantly rise. Considering all of the above, we have to admit that the negative trend will continue. Its correction will require government support in addition to already existing programs.”
