New Car Market in Russia: February Figures Are Released

According to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, a total of 75,472 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia in February 2026.

According to data obtained from PPC JSC, the market size in February 2026 was 77,163 units, which is 4% lower than sales in February last year.

Chairman of the Automobile Manufacturers Committee, Alexey Kalitsev comments:
“In February, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles fell by 6% year-on-year. This is the worst result in the past ten years, excluding February 2023. At the same time, compared with January this year, sales volumes remained broadly unchanged, which may indicate market stagnation. Expectations related to changes in the calculation of the disposal fee for vehicles imported from the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as the entry into force of the so-called ‘taxi localization law’, had little impact on the market and failed to stimulate it, although the effect of these factors may still become visible in March. It is obvious that both existing and new regulatory initiatives and support measures leave very limited opportunities for car importers. In the near term, in the mid-price segment, success in the Russian market is most likely to be achieved only by highly localized manufacturers. Without a significant expansion of state support measures for the industry, inclusion of a larger number of models in the list eligible for use in taxi fleets, and additional demand-stimulating measures, a positive market turnaround appears difficult.”
