GM-Avtovaz to Boost Production of the Chevrolet Niva

TOGLIATTI, Russia - Russian car maker GM-AVTOVAZ plans to churn out 52 thousand Chevrolet Niva cars in 2011, about 40% more than in the previous year. Daily output of its sole model has been raised to 224 units to meet this production goal. The company, which added a second shift at its Togliatti plant on September 21, 2010, currently operates five days per week with eight hours shifts.

GM-AVTOVAZ produced 36,996 cars in 2010, representing a 90% increase compared to 2009.

With 35,380 units sold last year, the Niva proved to be the most popular Chevrolet model on the Russian market.

The company recently celebrated its 350,00th car rolling off the assembly line in Togliatti.
