This was announced by GAZ Group CEO Bo Andersson, who also told that for 2011, assembly of 500 Škoda Yeti is planned at the Nizhny Novgorod plant. Initially, SOP date for this model was set for 1Q12. GAZ plans to launch CKD production of the Škoda Octavia and Yeti in the autumn of 2012, and will add the new Volkswagen Jetta to line in 2013.
Volkswagen and GAZ Group signed an agreement to assemble Volkswagen and Škoda models under contract at the GAZ plant in Nizhny Novgorod in June. The companies already concluded a memorandum of understanding regarding joint automobile production in Russia in February 2011. The planned production volume is 110,000 vehicles per year, while the agreement will run until 2019. Investment in production at Nizhny Novgorod will amount to some €200 million. This covers expanding and modernizing existing paint shop and assembly facilities as well as setting up a new body shop.
