Foundation Stone Laid for new Rehau Plant in Hungary

The production site, which will exclusively produce system components for the automotive industry shortly, will start its operation in the international industrial estate in 2013 and then be the workplace of about 200 new REHAU employees. The polymer specialist with operating worldwide with its headquarters in Rehau, Bavaria, will therefore increase the number of its production plants to 41 and the production capacities for the automotive sector to a total of 15 locations worldwide. Rehau is investing around €60 million in the new building in Gyor, right at the gates of the Audi plant.

Rehau has been fitting bumper variants for several years already for various Audi models, such as the Audi TT, in 3-shift operation in Gyor and supplies these bumpers just-in-time to the car manufacturer’s assembly line. The extension to an own production site is to be attributed, among other things, to the orders for bumper systems of the new Audi TT and Q7. The exterior parts for these models were produced in Viechtach, Lower Bavaria, up to now. As the resources are exhausted thanks to new model start-ups, Rehau was looking for alternative sites. With the new plant in Hungary, the front and rear bumper systems of both models will in the future be injection molded and painted in Györ prior to final assembly. The final assembly on the Audi TT and derivates of the A3 is carried out locally in Gyor, for the Q7 in an assembly and logistics center in Bratislava (Slovakia). From 2013 the bumper systems for the A3 convertible will also be produced in the Rehau plant in Gyor.

On 12 July, the foundation stone was laid for the new Rehau plant measuring 26,000 m2 in Gyor, Hungary, around 120 kilometers northwest of Budapest
