Fiat Auto Poland Cuts Temporarily Jobs as Sales Decline

According to Fiat Auto Poland spokesperson Boguslaw Cieslar, the decision was made due to a significant drop in new orders from foreign markets, where it sells roughly 98% of its production. Additionally, the recently introduced new Fiat Panda will not be manufactured in Tychy as the previous model had been. Instead, Fiat has decided to transfer the production of this model to its Pomigliano d'Arco plant near Naples.

The company has adjusted its production forecast for 2011, and now it is estimating that a total of 500 thousand cars will be manufactured at its Tychy plant instead of the 550,000 initially set for this year.

Fiat plans to lay off 435 workers at its Tychy plant in October
