AvtoVAZ Starts Pilot Production of Lada R90 Cars

Togliatti-based car maker AvtoVAZ launched pilot production of its Lada ’R90’ cars on Renault’s B0 platform on June 2nd. Five units of the Logan MCV-based car will be produced until the end of the month. Building the first car is expected to take one week, with assembly time to be reduced to three days at the fifth car.

Serial production the Lada ’R90’ will be started at AvtoVAZ’s modernized Togliatti plant in the second quarter of 2012. The R90 will be equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and will offer two airbags and Isofix system as standard equipment. Optionally, it can be equipped with ABS, Radio CD with MP3 and side airbags. As the Renault/Dacia Logan MCV, a third row of seats will be optional. Once launched on the Russian market, Lada ’R90’ will have a starting price tag of 340 thousand rubles (about €8.400).
