Avtotor Expects Strong Production Growth in 2012

GM models are expected to account for about 50 percent of the total production, Avtotor’ Chairman Vladimir Shcherbakov told local media. According to him, next year will see several new passenger car models to be added to the line, and assembly of 5 to 7 thousand Hyundai and Daewoo trucks will also be organised at the Kaliningrad plant. Plans call for the start of the new Chevrolet Aveo in January 2012 and the Chevrolet Captiva and Opel Antara models the following month.
Long-term plans call for the construction of new assembly facilities and component plants to enable the company to double capacity to 600 thousand units, and increase localization rate to 30% by 2017.

According to the ASM-Holding, Avtotor produced 185,760 cars between January and October, which is represents an increase of approximately 40 percent compared to the same period of 2010.
The company currently assembles 28 different models for the world's leading manufacturers, including BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Daewoo, Kia and Opel. Local media names Subaru, Jaguar Land Rover and Hyundai as the company’s possible new partners in car assembly.
