Amphenol to Transfer Production from Czech Republic to Tunisia and China

Amphenol Corporation, a major producer of electronic and fiber optic connectors, cable and interconnect systems, will move production of automotive related components, mainly airbag wiring harnesses, from the Czech Republic to Tunisia and China. According to Autofox/CTK, the measure is related to the restructuring of the company’s automotive division. Part of the Czech subsidiary’s production has already been moved to Tunisia. Of the total 324 employees 135 might lose their jobs during September and October. Production of industrial electronics related products will be sustained in Ostrov.

Amphenol stated in its annual report for 2010 that in the current highly competitive environment car makers are under strong downward pressure on vehicle prices, and therefore seek to achieve lower prices of individual parts at their suppliers, too. To produce these simple electronic components in Tunisia will enable the company to maintain its market share in the airbag cable harness business.

Over a hundred employees might lose their jobs at Amphenol’s Czech Plant
