Škoda to export Russian-made Yeti SUV to European markets

NZHNY NOVGOROD/MLADA BOLESLAV, RUSSIA -- Škoda Auto a.s. will increase the assembly of the Škoda Yeti SUV at its Russian contract manufacturing partner Gruppa GAZ in Nizhny Novgorod in order to serve export markets. The reason is the full utilisation of Škoda’s plant in Kvasiny, which currently manufactures Škoda Yeti and Superb as well as the Seat Ateca and is preparing for the volume production of the Škoda Kodiaq. “We are delighted to be able to deliver as many Škoda Yeti to our customers in Europe as they wish,” said Michael Oeljeklaus, Škoda’s Board Member for Production and Logistics. “By using the production capacities of another European plant within our international production network, we can respond satisfactorily to the high demand.” The first Russian-made
Yetis are expected to be exported later this year. Škoda launched production of the Yeti in 2009. Assembly in Nizhny Novgorod for the Russian market started in 2012. The Yeti is also manufactured in China and is assembled from SKD kits in Ukraine and Kazakhstan. More than 580,000 Yetis have been sold to customers around the world to date. In 2015, Škoda delivered about 99,500 Yetis to customers. Some 61,700 Yetis were sold between January and August 2016. Production of the first-generation Yeti is to be phased out next year as it will be replaced by a second-generation model.
